Bähr’s Rule | KPP v KP

In 1936 Walter Bähr stated a rule for a visual analysis of these situations without the need for calculation.

Bähr’s Rule applies when the following conditions are true:

(1) The rook pawn of the stronger side has not yet reached the 5th rank (if it has, then it is won).

(2) The stronger king is standing directly beside its passed pawn.

(3) The defending king is standing directly in front of the enemy king or the passed pawn.
