im watching this cause im new to chess and i had this situation and end up drawing the lucky guy T_T. all cause i dint know how to play the end game. my first time actually getting a rook king vs king endgame
Why didn't you start marching him into the top right corner by moving the king to F4 instead of F5 at 2:13? That way you wouldn't have had to relocate the rook. And why would the black king have moved to G4 at 1:24 anyway, lining up with the white king, when it could've gone the other way? You never covered that option. Why?
I was in this position and asked my opponent to resign nicely or else I would have to look up how to check mate with rook and king (there was still a lot of time). He refused so I had to learn how to do this finally. Thank you for the win!
The problem with this video is the black king is making the most convenient moves for allowing white to get checkmate, I need to know how to mate the king when it makes the best possible moves.
The box technique looks simpler and faster: search "Basic Checkmates: King and Rook Mate" in your favourite search engine. The article is on chess.com. (It seems I cannot post a link here…)
Stalemate is when the king is not in check and can not move. Insufficient mating material is when there are for example king + bishop vs king on the board. That's a difference for me…
I enjoy your videos so have subscribed. I prefer the "Box Technique" but this works fine. At 2:05 I think Kf4 is slightly better. Are you going to do a King and Rook v King and Bishop?
I only recently started playing chess and sometimes im left with king and other pieces and i always end up drawing, i have'nt being on your chanel yet but if you haven't already could you do more of these with king and other pieces vs king?
man i am so good at opening games. I am playing 200-300 above my rating, but I always seem to make a fatal mistake late in the game. Chess is so frustrating!!
I played something like this just a few minutes ago. I had to remember to use the king as a barricade and keep the rook where the enemy King couldn't get him.
I’ve watched this 150 times but still cant’t do it in the game
Thanks! Start here 1:53

It happens so rare to me that I keep forgetting what it was. Usually time is very low too
We need this video because they dont surrender!
I've watched this before, but never got it. You explained it perfectly and made it so simple. Legend
So basically get your king in front of his then move rook. Repeat until win. Gotcha
I don't get how the King can't just pull a Draw if he keeps moving back and forth?

Thank you for this I will not draw a game again having a rook and my king.
thanks for this!
2:08 oops why not Kf4?
I’m more interested in how to draw as black
Useless
I have known this for over 30 years.
Ive accidentally gotten a draw by repetition twice now but this video is helping to slowly grasp the concept.
came here whilst in the middle of nearly drawing a game, won
Thanks this was super helpful!
What do yoy do if they just spam back and forth for a draw

can anyone explain how thats mate. Isnt it stalemate because the king cant move anywhere.

man, i just offered a draw like this and i was so sad when i saw M11 on the evaluation bar
just looked this up in the middle of a game in this exact situation
Thanks ss😍🥰😍
I have had maybe 50 draws even after watching this ten times o simple can't make it work
yeah that makes sense. thanks for the feedback. glad you still enjoyed!
It's a very logical process …
that's awesome. Glad to hear so many people are learning a lot from the vids.
who wins if both sides only have a king left?
great quesiton, game is drawn.
@thegreatninjaman its a draw (stalemate)

Kevin your videos are a fucking drug…can't stop watching them!
It's not a stalemate. That's called "Insufficient mating material". I'm pretty sure I'm right.

this is very interesting but what happens if it is NR vs R
Very good Kevin. Now to practice this against Fritz.

easy way to put it: put him on 1 file and then face him with ur king
at 2:14, best move was to move white king to Kf4 instead. That way, you won't have to move your rook at all.
thx
Was watching the video during my game and i finally got a checkmate, he just kept running, thanks xDDDD
