  1. I'm not sure if this is a really good advise or a really bad advise.

  2. This advice seems to me like the definition of someone giving “tough love”. Thanks for the wise words👍❤

  3. it is more like don't make stupid mistakes

  4. This is the best general advise I've ever heard on YouTube

  5. Baffling amount of negative comments. By my estimation "spend every waking hour you have available passionately devoted to the game to improve" isn't bad advice…

  6. "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." – John 14:6

  7. A atheist does not need a book to know if something is good or bad. 🙂

  8. I practice every day and i'm now on my way to 1600….trouble is i'm currently at 1800

  9. Its not necessarily true that just doing it will make you better. If you keep doing it wrong you'll never get better. Musicians will know this especially that it doesn't matter how long you practice if you suck at practicing. So yes asking people does help you get better because those people can point you in the right direction and help you learn how to practice more effectively.

  10. 1:33 this is a sort of braindead take on why people are asking this. I am asking "how do I improve" because I HAVE just been playing and thinking about chess and NOT improving. I HAVE been practicing and not improving. And so I start asking "what am I doing wrong? How do I get better?"

  11. How do i get better?

    Ben: just get better duh

  12. Walk more and drink less of your calories ( beer, juice, soda, Starbucks)

  13. Useless and not helpful. Misleading title and waste of 5 minutes. We look to people who are better than us at something like chess to provide some guidance as to what specific things to do to improve. You failed to provide the guidance implied in your title. If you want to help then list a few specific things we learners can do to improve. Your incoherent ramble is not helpful. Telling us what not to do or what not to ask is fine. That could have taken at most 30 seconds. Instead you provided silly examples having nothing to do with chess. You could have then listed tasks necessary for a computer player who sincerely wants to improve but is unsure which tasks to focus on. This disappointing and a waste of my time. Perhaps you could try again and provide a general roadmap or even some ideas for those of us who are “doing chess “ but not feeling that we are progressing. I think you are too angry and narcissistic to create such a video but perhaps you could prove me wrong.

  14. You have to put in your 10000 hours and spend that time actually playing and thinking about why you lost and how you can improve in your next game.

  15. I literally searched "how to improve in chess", this is one of the first videos that came up and you spent 5 minutes lecturing me on if I want to improve my chess game I'll need to do research and not think about getting good… But i'm literally doing that now?

  16. looked at the thumbnail, thought you looked very jewish then i looked at your name and it was 100% confirmed, just to double check i searched up your surname and yh its jewish. idk why ashkenazi jewish peoples just have a distinct look

  17. You know what, that is some of the realest shit I've ever heard on chess and as a YouTuber generally

  18. "The problem people have in life (…) is people don't do stuff. They just talk about it, and they talk about how they're going to do it. That's not how you accomplish things in life. If you want to accomplish things in life, you do them, and if it doesn't work out, you do something else. You don't ask other people, because other people will just tell you what they think, which is usually about themselves."
This should be carved in stone or something

  19. “I don’t care what you guys think about basically anything, I just want donations”

😂😂😂 You sir just earned a sub

  20. I got smothered mated and went on a long chess losing streak so i quitted

  21. I am 99 years old and just reached 412 elo on chezz

  22. Your advice reminds me of Chuang Tzu's.

  23. Ben is talking about passion. Something NOT easy to have.

  24. Your religious views are as ridiculous as your chess lesson keep chess and religion separate study the Bible like you studied chess and your ignorant opinion may change

  25. I came for the answers in chess I stayed for the life lesson

  26. LOL. I play a lot of chess. I'm just bad.

  27. Im jumping in to this game head first at 26… Honestly l, I think 1000 would be my goal

  28. I think what you said is insightful, but a crucial question that remains unanswered is people who want to get better aren't sure how to start. For example, a chess player wants to improve, doesn't care about ratings or anything, but has no idea where to go. Some people look at openings, some people look at endgames, as a novice chess player, one does not even know where to begin to the path of improvement.

  29. He's grouping humble bragging with people who are genuinely looking to get better

  30. What a horrible take. If you want to improve he is correct you have to just do it and work hard, but there is nothing wrong with asking for direction or advice from someone else who has already been there. What he is saying completely contradicts coaching, and I’m pretty sure this guys entire career is based off of coaching.
