Smyslov is my favorite chess player. Thanks for the video! A discussion on Bronstein and Leonid Stein would also be interesting.
Jesse makes me appreciate positional chess I thought I would never appreciate.
Jesse has Kraai'd over beautiful moves
Happy to see Smyslov getting so much love in the chess world lately. One of my favorite players.
Dang the dojo is growing so fast! I remember 1000 was not so long ago
The new book Life and games of Smyslov is great.
Useful positional / end game chess advice. Nice tribute to Smyslov. Thanks, Jesse
Mikhail botvinnik teaching us about smyslov. Loved it!
Smyslov struck me as a paradox. He'd play the Smyslov(-Karpov) line in the Caro Kann, but play the Fantasy variation as White. And he chose experimental methods to disrupt Botvinnik's prep, as did Tal. Yet his play is a model of lucidity and harmony, and he was at home in Rook endings. Btw, Jesse's preamble about finding players whose style accords with your own 'values' makes good sense.
It would be helpful to provide some details of the place and year each of these games was played.
